Dr. Kerry’s Story

Portrait of a female Chinese doctor with dark hair, smiling, wearing a gray turtleneck sweater, supportive, in front of a wooden shelf with bottles of natural Chinese herbs at a Chinese herbal pharmacy in Seattle. The space is clean and healing.

Dr. Kerry founded One Hundred Roots, driven by an unexpected but profound commitment to specialized, whole-person care. Although pursuing this path was initially unforeseen, her dedication to patient results quickly established her excellence in the field. This unique journey blends deep-rooted family influence with professional dedication and global service.

An Unexpected Calling

While she grew up receiving treatments from her uncle, a respected Chinese medicine practitioner in China, Dr. Kerry initially pursued a degree—a Bachelor's Degree in Music Technology with a Composition focus— in the U.S. This background would later prove invaluable: her Doctoral research focuses on Wu Yin Music Medicine, a field where she applies the rigorous technical skills gained from her music training to source ancient texts from China and inform her unique compositions.

However, during that time, living away from home, she noticed fewer options for comprehensive East Asian medicine available to patients. The call to practice medicine came from two trusted mentors—her Chinese doctor and her late Qigong teacher—who both saw her potential. Though she didn't take action right away, their encouragement eventually inspired her to pursue her study and become a doctor.

Commitment to Global Service

Her commitment to helping others find relief extends globally. She has had the immense privilege of joining a nonprofit to provide medical treatment at a monastery in Nepal and, through her own initiative and effort, offering free treatments to hardworking locals in South India. Witnessing the power of East Asian Medicine to bring relief to people facing difficult, complex health challenges during these missions was a profound gift that solidified her commitment to specialized care.

Passion for Oncology Support

This experience directly informed her passion for supporting oncology patients back home. She observed a crucial unmet need: while conventional treatments are vital, EAM is uniquely suited to address the patient's whole-person recovery. She saw the need for supportive care—not only while patients manage the difficult side effects of cancer treatments, but also during the long, essential recovery phase afterward where EAM can restore vitality and sustain well-being. To ensure her practice is always at the forefront of collaborative care and communication within the wider medical community, Dr. Kerry is an active member of the Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO). She founded this clinic to bring that personalized, supportive, and advanced care to our community.
